Administration

The success of Jóvenes Adelante is due primarily to the work of more than 130 members and volunteers. Because of San Miguel de Allende's special character as a 17th-century Spanish Colonial city and a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich cultural center, it attracts many outstanding retiring professionals and active artists. These are our officers.

E.F. Savage, VP, Guanjuato Branch

A resident of Guanajuato since 2008, she is a native of Chicago, a graduate of University of Illinois and completed a course of study at the University of Southern California. graduate school of business. She previously owned a corporate consulting firm working with Fortune 100 companies and has served on numerous boards for both professional and non-profit organizations. E.F. has traveled extensively and has a passion for educational projects.

Amanda

Pat Harding, President

Pat holds a BS in physics and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her career spanned software development and marketing in industrial automation for major corporations. In the mid-90’s, while working part-time at Apple, she and her husband founded a boutique travel business. She left her job as Worldwide Pricing Manager at Apple in 2005 to move to San Miguel.

Judy Boston, VP, Mentor Program Chair

Judy is a native New Yorker who left right after 9/11. She taught ESL in New York, New Jersey and Sydney, Australia, and then sold radio advertising for 20 years for a classical music station and underwrote sponsorships for WNYC, New York's public radio station. In SMA she volunteers at Amigos de Animales blitzes, is a bus guide for the House & Garden Tour on Sundays, and was the Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Biblioteca. She has a BS degree from Cornell and a Masters of Education degree.

Keith Wall, VP, Fundraising Chair

Keith has a BA in English from San Diego State University. Over his career he has written for corporate and technical communications, training, marketing, and health care. He also operated a photo studio in Long Beach, California. Prior to moving to San Miguel in 2005. he was communications director and internal newspaper editor for an Oakland, California, based non-profit.

Judy

Carmen Salmerón, Secretary

Fully bi-lingual and bi-cultural, Carmen is a native of Mexico with long-standing family ties to San Miguel de Allende. After teaching English for 8 years at CBTis (Centro de Bachillerato Technologico Industrial y de Servercios Preparatorio), she started her own Cultural Facilitation business, offering written English and Spanish translations, simultaneous translations, problem resolution and case and event management.

Fran

Fran Mahoney Scholarship Chair

Fran was an academic dean and faculty member in the University System of New Hampshire for many years before retiring to San Miguel. She designed innovative degree programs for adults returning to get their bachelor’s degree and also created a nationally recognized model for faculty development for teachers of adults. She has an M.A. in English literature, an M.Ed. in counseling, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. Her special interest is personality theory, especially in relation to the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory.

Sue Beere, Treasurer

Susi is a three-time editor of Atención (San Miguel’s English-language weekly) and current member of the Biblioteca Publica's Board of Directors, the second largest biligual library in Mexico. She has been a fixture in San Miguel charitable and educational projects since 1971.

Amanda Kay Ruiz, Past President

A Guanajuato resident, Amanda is a former civil rights and class action attorney who specialized in poverty law issues including prisoners' and children’s rights, elder abuse, and disability law. Previously she worked in the oil and gas industry as a geophysical engineer.
